There is a profound beauty in the way a community shows up for a wedding. For Laine and Mark’s celebration at The Providence Academy, it wasn’t just about the stunning architecture of this Vancouver, WA landmark—it was about the people who filled it with life.
The morning carried that quiet, grounding hum that always precedes a major milestone.
Up on the second floor of The Providence Academy, Laine was tucked away in the bridal suite, surrounded by the laughter and steadying presence of her family as they helped her into the final details.

Just down the hall in the groom’s room, Mark shared a few private, easy frames with his best man, anchoring himself before the whirlwind began. There is so much unspoken beauty in these separate pockets of preparation—the gentle adjustment of a veil, the quiet exhale between lifelong friends, and the deep sense of safety that comes from being surrounded by the people who have known you through every chapter leading up to this one.
We moved to the balcony for their first look, a quiet moment of connection before the day truly took flight.
One of the most honest, joyful moments happened right then: a group of neighbors on the porches of the nearby apartment buildings spotted them and began cheering. It was a spontaneous celebration from strangers that felt like a giant hug from the city itself.
The ceremony inside the historic chapel was absolutely stunning, but my favorite part was how wonderfully real and fun it was. Tucked away among all that gorgeous, traditional architecture were hidden cardboard cutouts of Laine and Mark’s cats—a hilarious surprise from the wedding party that had everyone, including the bride and groom, cracking up at the altar. It was the perfect example of what I love to capture: those totally unscripted, joyful moments that make a wedding day feel like you. Surrounded by their favorite people and the watchful (if slightly flat) eyes of their feline family members, they said their vows in a space that felt completely personal and full of love.
The ceremony in the chapel was a sanctuary of shared promises, followed by a reception in the main ballroom where the unscripted laughter of their closest friends and family took over.
It didn’t matter that the Pacific Northwest weather eventually shifted; in fact, the rain gave us a gift. We stepped outside as the sun went down, using the light of The Providence Academy to create a backlit portrait in the downpour.
Those rain-streaked photos ended up being some of the most honest of the night. They serve as a reminder that when you are surrounded by the people who see and celebrate you, even a storm becomes part of the beauty.
Congratulations, Laine and Mark—it was an honor to capture the light you both bring into the world.
