Candlelighters For Children With Cancer -Harvest of Hope

by Missy Fant Photography | Oct 23, 2017 | Events

Candlelighters of Oregon help provide services to help out entire families as their children fight the horrible disease that is cancer. It is an amazing foundation that I am proud to be associated with. From their website: “In 1977, five families banded together...

I have a few sessions available for this weekend, and so far, Saturday looks promising.

There’s a certain magic to the Pacific Northwest t There’s a certain magic to the Pacific Northwest that doesn’t care about the forecast. Whether the sky is a brilliant blue or heavy with mist, the call of the wild remains the same.

This morning, that call led me out to Panther Creek Falls in Carson for Mia and Tyler’s engagement session.

When Tyler first asked if I knew the spot, I didn’t hesitate. We immediately dove into the details of this hidden gem. Yes, it’s a drive. Yes, it’s tucked away. But for a love story this vibrant, it is exactly what the soul requires.

For those of you new to my corner of the internet, you might not know that my roots in photography are deeply intertwined with these woods.

Back in 2010, Panther Creek was my training ground. This was long before the Lower Trail was cut or the railings were installed. In those days, the locals would often take down the signs to keep the falls a secret—a true “hidden valley” of the PNW.

I taught myself the camera while staring mt and photographing the waterfalls of the PNW.

Returning today felt like visiting an old friend, but it came with a heavy heart. Over the years, the Forest Service had to step in because of “adventurers” who didn’t respect the terrain. Even this morning, I saw people bypassing the safety fences and stepping onto the slick, moss-covered cliffs.

In the grand tapestry of an epic story, the beauty in small things—a fern frond, a shared look between a couple, the mist on a jacket—only stays beautiful if we protect the world they live in.

• Leave No Trace: At Missy Fant Photography, we follow strict LNT principles. We stay on the trails, respect the closures, and preserve the magic for the next traveler.

• Safety First: The wild is beautiful, but it is indifferent. I always carry safety devices to ensure that our only memories are the stunning ones we capture.

“Not all those who wander are lost”—but those who wander off-trail are often looking for trouble. Let’s keep the PNW wild, safe, and breathtaking.

What images of your brand have you posted that have gotten potential customers to stop and look at your product?

It's the "beauty in small things"—that quiet, consistent presence in their feeds that says, "I'm here, and I'm still creating for you."

But showing up consistently? That’s the challenge.

You have the expertise, the drive, and the "big picture" vision. But do you always have the images to match that vision, week after week?

This is why I’ve crafted something specifically for the visionary entrepreneur: Monthly Branding Sessions.

It's not just about one photo shoot; it's a strategic partnership to ensure you never run out of authentic, professional content. These ongoing sessions are designed to:

Keep Your Content Fresh: Constantly update your feed with new, relevant visuals that reflect your evolving story.
Maintain Consistency: We plan ahead, ensuring your brand stays top-of-mind and builds deep trust.
Focus on Your Work: You focus on running your empire; I handle making sure you look incredible doing it.

Spent a gorgeous afternoon yesterday out at Moulton Falls with Macayli, and honestly, the PNW is really starting to show off for spring.

There’s something about those deep forest greens and the rush of the water that makes a session feel less like a "photo shoot" and more like an epic journey. I’ve always believed that life is just one big adventure, and finishing your senior year is one of those major milestones where the road ahead looks wide open and full of possibility.

"Home is behind, the world ahead; and there are many paths to tread." - Tolkien

I love traveling to these iconic spots, but the real magic is always in the "small things"—the quiet smiles, the way the light hits the moss, and those split-second moments of genuine personality that tell the true story of who you are right now.

Macayli, you crushed it! Between the bridge and the river, we couldn't have asked for a better backdrop for this chapter of your story.

Ready to start your own adventure? Whether you want to hike to a hidden gem or keep it close to home in Vancouver, I’m down to explore with you. Let’s capture the big milestones and the little details that make your life beautiful.

Olivia and Alex are getting married! I spent Sund Olivia and Alex are getting married!

I spent Sunday on Officer’s Row with Olivia and Alex for their engagement session. Honestly? Their chemistry stats are off the charts.

It just felt right to start the journey at the Row before moving to the Chapel for their fall wedding. It’s a perfect Vancouver quest line, and seeing these two together makes it clear they’ve already found their Player 2 for life.
We’ve done the deep dive. We’ve talked about the We’ve done the deep dive. We’ve talked about the "pogo stick" energy, the dirt-under-the-fingernails landscapes, and the fact that photography literally kept my head above water during a cancer fight.

But you might be wondering: "Cool story, Missy, but what’s in it for me?" Everything. ⚡

Because I’ve lived through the moments where a photo was the only thing I had left of a person I loved, I don't just "take your picture." I guard your legacy.

I see the entire scene because I know how quickly it can change. When I’m in the studio or out on a cliffside with you, I’m not just looking for a "good angle." I’m looking for the version of you that your daughter is going to look at 30 years from now and say, "Damn, she was a powerhouse."

I’m for the creators, the doers, and the people who aren't afraid to get a little messy to capture something real. I’m for the people who know that a "pretty" image is a dime a dozen, but an intentional story is priceless.

I’m not just your photographer; I’m the one who’s going to make sure you’re remembered exactly how you lived: Vast. Bold. And completely authentic.

Ready to stop taking "pretty" pictures and start building a legacy? My calendar is open for a few more "doers" this season. Let’s go.
We’ve been talking about "joy" and "landscapes," b We’ve been talking about "joy" and "landscapes," but let’s get into the why—because honestly, photography didn't just find me. It saved me. ⚓️🩹

I didn't pick up a camera because I wanted a hobby. I picked it up as therapy after my dad died. I spent those first raw months chasing his ghost—visiting the ridges and the hidden spots he used to take me to when I was a kid. I was literally working through my grief through a viewfinder.

Suddenly, "capturing the moment" wasn't a cliché anymore. It was a survival tactic. I became obsessed with documenting every second between my dad and my daughter—because I knew, intimately, that "later" isn't a guarantee.

Then came my own fight. Cancer.

When I was bedridden and the world felt like it was closing in, my images were my escape. I’d lay there and "play" with them—digging into the colors, the vastness, and the memories of the places I’d been. It was the only way I could "step outside" when my body wouldn't let me.

So when I tell you I want to capture your "entire scene," I’m not just being poetic. I know the weight of a single frame. I know that these images aren't just "content"—they’re the anchors we hold onto when the storm hits.

I don't just take pictures. I preserve the proof that you were here, you were loved, and you fought like hell.

Photo by the amazing @darina_neyret_portrait , my friend and studio neighbor who is leaving us for Scotland soon =(
I don't know how she managed to capture all the fo I don't know how she managed to capture all the footage of the day, but a HUGE thank you to @retrosunshine_ for being my associate at this wedding.

Not only did she capture stills, but she also duel wielded the @campsnapcamera to capture some fun Super 8 footage.

Here's just a small peek at their first look.
Listen, some photographers are "indoor plants." Th Listen, some photographers are "indoor plants." They need their temperature-controlled rooms with no wind in their hair.

Me? I’m a hybrid.

My "uniqueness" is that I have a chronic obsession with the entire scene. My brain is permanently set to wide-angle. I don’t just see you; I see the way the light is hitting that ridge three miles behind you. I see the storm rolling in that’s about to turn a "nice photo" into a cinematic masterpiece.

But here’s the kicker: I’m just as dangerous in a studio as I am on a mountain top. Whether I’m dragging you into the dirt to capture your "doer" energy against a 10,000-foot peak, or we’re in the studio crafting a vibe that’s clean, sharp, and intentional—I’m at home.

I’m the one who’s going to make sure the background is as legendary as you are, whether that background is a literal canyon or a perfectly lit seamless.

Is it a hike? Probably. Will we be obsessing over every shadow in the studio? Abso-freaking-lutely. Because your story is too big for a one-trick pony.
If you’re looking for a photographer who stays per If you’re looking for a photographer who stays perfectly manicured and never breaks a sweat... keep scrolling. I am not her.

My "uniqueness" usually looks like me face-down in the dirt or hanging off a chair like a caffeinated spider monkey just to get that one angle.

I’ve been told I have a "process."

My process involves:

Making a total fool of myself so you feel like the coolest person in the room.

Spotting the one stray hair or weird shadow that’s trying to ruin your vibe before it even happens.

Ignoring the "rules" of photography because, honestly, the rules are boring and I have better things to do.

Is it a little chaotic? Maybe. Is it the reason your photos don’t look like a generic stock image of "Business Person Holding Tablet"? Absolutely. I’m the pogo-sticking kid in a world of people just walking. I don’t just show up; I show out. Because if we aren’t having a ridiculous amount of fun, why are we even doing this?

What’s your "weird" talent or work habit that people always comment on? Don’t lie, we all have one.
Amanda and Quintin tied the knot last night at the Amanda and Quintin tied the knot last night at the Artillery Barracks, and I’m still buzzing from the magic. Between the @thehistorictrust moody, storied charm and the cherry blossoms peaking exactly on cue, it felt like a dream.

But the real legends? The cats made a guest appearance. Because let’s be real—a wedding isn’t truly complete until the four-legged family members show up to steal the spotlight for a photo op.

I’m obsessed with the quiet, golden energy of these shots. Amanda and Quintin, huge congrats on such an incredible night. Thank you for being absolute rockstars and letting me capture the wild laughter and those soft, sunset moments in between.

My first big wedding of 2026! Even after 10+ year My first big wedding of 2026!

Even after 10+ years of being a wedding photographer, my anxiety runs high in prep. Gotta make sure all the batteries are charged, all the gear is packed, and the SD cards are actually in the cameras.

Once I get to the wedding though? All anxiety melts and I'm in creative mode.

I have @retrosunshine_ joining me today down at the @thehistorictrust to make sure we capture every angle there is for Amanda and Quentin’s wedding day.

The Pacific Northwest finally decided to play nice The Pacific Northwest finally decided to play nice!

After days of pouring rain, the clouds parted just in time for the Reeves Family session at Whipple Creek today.

Beyond the beautiful light, this session was extra special. The Reeves family secured this photo package through their generous donation to the YWCA.

I’m so incredibly grateful to work with families who not only value capturing their own legacy but also believe in supporting the vital work the YWCA does for our community. A huge thank you to the Reeves for being wonderful humans and making today’s shoot so meaningful!
There is something truly magical about the way ste There is something truly magical about the way steam rises off a fresh plate or the vibrant colors of a perfectly plated dish. At Missy Fant Photography, I don't just take pictures of food—I tell the story of the passion you put into your craft.

I recently have the absolute pleasure of working with The Diner, and it perfectly captures why I love what I do. Their food is incredible, but their mission is even better: they are operated by Meals on Wheels People, so every bite helps support seniors in our community. Serving folks truly is their jam!

When you book a branding session with me, we do things a little differently. I’m a big believer in beauty without waste, which is why I include a Zero Waste Agreement in my food photography packages.

Once the "lights, camera, action" is over, the work isn't done. The food is boxed up, and delivered to those in our community who need them most.

Your brand gets stunning, professional imagery that converts, and together, we get to do a little good for the neighborhood. It’s a win-win that tastes as good as it looks!
It was such a joy to step into the world of music It was such a joy to step into the world of music and healing yesterday! I spent the morning capturing images for Kaelin and her incredible music therapy business.

In branding photography, my goal is always to move beyond just "nice headshots." For Kaelin, we wanted to showcase the heartbeat of what she does: the connection, the instruments, and the serene, supportive space she creates for her clients.

Whether you're a therapist, a creator, or a small business owner, your visuals should tell your story before you even say a word. For Kaelin’s session, we focused on:

The Details: The tactile nature of the instruments.

The Vibe: Calm, professional, and deeply inviting.

The Human Element: Capturing Kaelin in her element, doing what she loves most.

"Music therapy is more than just notes; it’s about communication and breakthrough."

Watching Kaelin work reminded me why I love traveling all over the PNW (and beyond!) to tell these stories. Every entrepreneur has a "why," and I’m just here to make sure the world sees it clearly.

Missy made my daughter’s senior photo shoot a truly joyful experience. She’s not only an exceptionally talented photographer but also has a gift for drawing out genuine smiles, even from the most nervous subjects. My daughter is incredibly camera shy and was worried she’d look “awkward,” but from the moment we met Missy, she was at ease. I’m so glad we chose the package with all the digital images—Missy captured so many stunning shots, I couldn’t have chosen just a few. I can’t thank her enough for making the process fun and beautifully capturing such a pivotal moment in my daughter’s life.

Missy is truly amazing! Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to find a photographer for our May 2025 wedding with only about a month to spare and we were so lucky to come across Missy. She immediately put us at ease with her humor and down to earth personality.
Day of the wedding she arrived early, took amazing photos, stayed a little late to get some final shots of us with our family and almost immediately sent us a sneak peek of some of the pictures.
If you are in need of someone who obviously loves their work and puts their all into each and every picture, Missy is your best friend!
